Our laboratory is part of the UC Davis Interdisciplinary Center for Electron Microscopy (ICEM), formed by the laboratories of Ilke Arslan, Klaus van Benthem, Nigel Browning, Holland Cheng, James Evans and Henning Stahlberg. We share a common microscopy suite.


The equipment in Briggs hall includes these 5 TEMs:
  • JEOL JEM-3000SFF (being installed now, Photos can be found here)
      (300kV, FEG, Helium-cooled top entry stage for imaging at 4.2 Kelvin)
  • JEOL JEM-2100F (Photo)
      (200kV, FEG, (S)TEM, Tietz 4k CCD, Cryo-EM and Tomography capable)
  • JEOL JEM-2100F/Cs (being installed now)
      (200kV, FEG, (S)TEM, STEM Cs aberration corrector, Tridiem GIF with Ultrascan CCD, Cryo-EM and Tomography capable)
  • JEOL JEM-1230 (Photo)
      (120 kV, Tietz 2k CCD, Cryo-EM and Tomography capable)
  • Philips EM410LS (Photo)
      (120kV, Gatan CCD)

  • Full sample preparation equipment, including
    • Pneumatic Plunge-Freezer
    • High-Pressure Frezer LEICA EMPACT
    • Ultramicrotomes
  • Laser Diffractometer
  • Heidelberg Primescan D8200 drum scanner
  • Workstations, parallel computing systems.
